Langdale is a place I haven't been to since 2009 and was long over due a visit. My starting point was at the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, I was going for Bowfell at first, but the Langdale Pikes drawn me to them.
The start of the walk was misty with drizzle but the Weather man did say the Sun would get out later and when the Sun started to come out I got this lovely shot looking back down the way I came.
Once I reached Stickle Tarn I thought it would be good to add Sergeant Man in the Walk, due to last time being there 2 walkers thought it would be good to place bags and Jackets on the summit Cairn and to sit on it making it impossible to get any good shots.
The Plan was to take in Jacks Rake but Conditions were poor so that give me the idea for Sergeants Man. I did see 2 walkers starting to climb Jacks Rake and was worried, hopefully there were experienced climbers and had the right equiment. Later on in the walk I met 2 walkers on Harrison Stickle who told me, Rocks had come down on Jacks Rake which made it dangerous to pass, so anyone got any info on that i would like to hear it.

Once on Sergeant Man I was disappointed, I was hoping to get some good shots and the Weather came in and that was that. Sergeant Man must be my bogey Fell, that one where every time you go up it you don't get the Photos you want.
This was properly the best one I got, the only positive being no bags or Jackets on it.
Next was Thunacar Knot, at the time I thought I had to bag this one but once I got there I realized I had walked over it about 20 times. Sometimes AW confuses me, into how he came about naming the 214 when some of the mounds walked over to get to Wainwrights could of been added too. The likes of Thunacar Knott & Mungrisdale Common just don't do it for me, Great walks but do there deserve to be classed as a stand alone Fell? Take Crinkle Crags the 5 Crinkles could of been five stand alone fells and in my opinion all 5 offer more than Thunacar & Mungrisdale. I'm not saying I want the Crinkles to be 5 separate fells, I like it how it is just think some fells could be just part of a walk to a more greater fell, to me Thunacar is just part of High Raise.
Not much to see here.
On my way to Harrison Stickle the cloud started to lift and I finally got a view to Bowfell and my new 5 fells Crinkle Crags.

Anywhere you see the Langdale Pikes in the Lake district, there just look amazing. Pike 'o' Stickle is my favorite looking fell, it just looks like how a Mountain should look like.

Anyway enjoy looking at my photos here. Wainwright Hiker
Thanks for reading.
Excellent photos and blog. I love the Langdale Pikes (despite the long saga I had trying to climb them all!) They are on my list to do again once I have finished my last five Wainwrights.
ReplyDeleteOh,the Pikes... great pics and blogging. My last time in Langdale was doing Pike O Blisco and the Crinkles from Old Dungeon Ghyll, wow did we need some Jennings at the hikers bar on our return!
